Sean Carrigan Wins Democratic Runoff Election!

Sean Carrigan Wins Democratic Runoff Election!

Words cannot describe the amount of gratitude I have for my supporters, my staff, and my dedicated volunteers and interns. It is because of you that we have become the Democratic nominee for United States Congress in District 2. For nine months, we have gone from city to city, county to county, town to town, listening to the concerns of voters across this district. The hunger for change is present in the hearts of all South Carolinians, and I am humbled and honored to be selected to represent that yearning for change and justice for all in this race for Congress. It is you, the worker, the single mother and the lower middle class family that I dedicate the entirety of my campaign. You will not be left behind.

I’d also like to extend a huge congratulations to other Democratic nominees across the country and the state, notably Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York. Her incredible upset last night is a direct result of grassroots campaigning, and focusing on issues that pertain to everyday people who suffer under policies designed to keep them down. That is what will bring us to victory in November. Not focusing on flashy headlines and sensational stories, but on championing the ideas that empower the working class.

I thank the wonderful organizations and individuals who lent us their endorsements as well. Gov. Jim Hodges, Rep. Cezar McKnight, Mayor Jerald Sanders, Secretary of State Nominee Melvin Whittenburg, Deyaska Spencer, Rep. Lonnie Hosey, The Honor PAC, Aiken Like Thinkers, The South Carolina Education Association, and the groups who offered us recommendations and distinctions such as Moms Demand Action and #VoteProChoice.

I’d also like to thank my Democratic opponent, Mrs. Robertson, and her team for a spirited race these past nine months. I wish her and her staff nothing but the best in the months to come.

We have a long, uphill battle ahead of us, but when we unite, nothing is impossible. We will be working hard in the following weeks to implement our general election strategy, which is focused on turning out the vote, uniting the left, and pulling votes away from the incumbent.

Thank you again to everyone who made this victory possible. Your hard work and dedication to justice are the launchpad that will send us soaring to Washington DC.
